Pop singer-songwriter Maccie grew up in Portland, Ontario in foster care, and from a young age used music as an escape. Maccie always had a passion for singing but when she discovered the piano at age 8 she was hooked. Teaching herself by ear, she learned piano, then moved on to guitar, djembe and kora. After she broke free of the system, Maccie travelled to Toronto where she enrolled at Ryerson University for Recording Arts. She first began performing in small cafes in 2012 and since then has performed sold out shows at the Opera House and to huge crowds at Yonge and Dundas Square. Jenesis Magazine declared her a “Must Listen”, and her list of features include AUX TV, Rogers TV, City TV, CBC, and HIFI Music Channel. Maccie’s raw and powerful voice will send chills through your spine and set a fire in your heart.
Primal is Maccie’s debut EP, born out of passion and shaped by resilience. It represents hardship, darkness, and sexuality; seeking no forgiveness for it. Working closely with Toronto producer Jeff Hazin, Maccie has created a sound that stands out. Inspired by relationships gone wrong, Primal touches the soul and brings you up. The first single released from the EP High, encapsulates female strength and independence. It breaks the trope of the damsel in distress, promoting a woman who doesn’t need anyone but herself. Primal is versatile. It hits hard and heavy with EDM-tinged dance songs like High and Wrong Girl, then brings you back to earth with the soul searing ballad, Floating. The Primal EP will get you ready to roar.
